MISSION

TO DESIGN AN AWAKENED PLANET.

Ashley Melin began her design journey in 2001 as an independent designer at Nike in Beaverton, OR. For 5 years she worked in Brand Design on retail environments. It was an ideal situation working 12+ months with a required 3-month break in between. During these breaks, she traveled extensively by herself in India and South America – skillfully navigating these challenging places (without a phone!). These travel adventures would inform her ability to connect with clients as well as her design aesthetic. In 2006, she went out on her own supporting many design agencies around Portland. During this time she learned how to navigate Powerpoint and design a premium presentation which has become a niche ever since. In 2010, she completed an 18-month contract at Columbia Sportswear where she also worked on many Sorel projects. After this experience, she has been completely independent and has been fortunate to work with some of the best brands in the world. She’s completely comfortable working directly with a client and also as part of a larger team on big projects. She also loves supporting small to medium sized businesses and non-profits in wellness and racial justice fields. Elevating a company’s design and reflecting her client’s dreams of being great is what inspires her most.

Ashley founded a yoga lifestyle brand called SoulJour, a yoga lifestyle brand dedicated to the seeker, sage and warrior in us all. She curates multi-faceted events with presenters from all over the world alongside designing all the merchandise and event graphics.

Outside of work, Ashley began a daily yoga and meditation practice in 1992 and has since guided hundreds of fearless yogis through the magical chaos in India. She is also an avid outdoorswoman having climbed over 25 peaks above 11,000 ft as well as being a complete mountain bike and ski junkie. All this aside, she is most proud of being a single mom to her incredible son and biggest inspiration, Carter (and their dogs Summit & Shasta).

Being a fearless designer takes more than just skill.
It takes leadership. Desire. An ability to communicate.
There’s an internal flame that just won’t go out.
Being a fearless designer means checking your ego at the door.
It can be humbling sometimes.
And, when you least expect it, rewarding.
Working as a team makes good designs great.
Being a fearless designer means being a trailblazer.
Both on and off the computer.
Exploring other passions feeds the overall design.
Experiencing life rather than watching it pass you by.
Being a fearless designer requires patience.
Yelling at your computer won’t accomplish much.
Frustration at yourself won’t either.
Accept deadlines. They are what they are.
Stay up later.
Being a fearless designer is a never ending journey.
It’s not about the destination, it’s about the path.
Sometimes the path is obvious.
Other times, it twists and turns.
In the end, a beautiful design always shines through.
The adventure is half the fun.
